Hudson homes put the riverfront, Lakefront Park and downtown within reach. Lake Mallalieu, a shallow Willow River impoundment of about 290 acres, can be reached from a landing off Highway 35. River and bluff property in the city falls under the Lower St. Croix Riverway rules, which set buildings back from the water and the bluffline. Confirm current zoning with the city before buying.
Land and acreage
Next to the city on the north and east, the Town of Hudson has its own zoning districts, including Agricultural and Agricultural/Residential. Its comprehensive plan calls for open space, farming and low-density homes on well and septic in those areas, with two-acre minimum lots recommended. Check town rules before planning to divide land.
Commercial
Downtown and the Old Town neighborhood sit in the river valley, while the city's business and industrial parks are on the bluffs to the east. In the Town of Hudson, the town's comprehensive plan places commercial land primarily around the Interstate 94 and County Highway A/U interchanges.

Willow River
Willow River State Park covers about 2,800 acres around Willow Falls and the Willow River gorge, with campgrounds, hiking trails and a nature center. A state park sticker is required.
Boat launch
The city launch at Lakefront Park takes a daily fee or a season pass, with lower rates for Wisconsin residents.
School district
Hudson is served by the Hudson School District.
